2023 Annual Appeal

Champions of Change

Kenya is a beautiful African country with amazing scenery and gracious, happy people. However, the country is currently facing a hard economic time, and behind the laughter and smiles, there is sadness and a lack of hope.

The biggest affected group is those under 30 years old, who contribute to 75% of the population. This is a moment in life when the rate of young people who are unemployed is significantly increasing; most of them can’t provide for their basic needs. With the pressure of life piling up, young people are falling into a state of mental brokenness. Suicide cases are increasing, more and more young people are falling out of schools, early teenage pregnancy cases are increasing, crime cases within the country are on the rise as well as the prevalence of abuse of drugs.

Young people feel forgotten and the more they seek advice and solutions from their peers and social media, the more they fall deep into more challenges. They are so stressed up that most of them have given up!

It’s a very sensitive moment that these young people need someone to stand in the gap for them. They have the potential to overcome all these obstacles and rise up as the changemakers within their communities.

Your support and love over the years give us the confidence that change is possible. We want to introduce you to Sharon and we'll be sharing more of her story over the next few weeks.

We first met Sharon in 2013 when she was at her lowest point. She had dropped out of school due to financial constraints. But thanks to your support, Sharon was able to join primary school and start a new chapter in her life. For Sharon, it wasn’t just about getting an education, but also about having a mentor who could guide her through life’s challenges.

As time went by, Sharon’s hard work and dedication paid off. She graduated from university and joined FIKISHA, where she is now leading the scholarship program.

It has been an absolute joy to watch her fight for the lives of young people and help them achieve their dreams.

Through Sharon’s leadership and dedication, all the students in the scholarship program have seen a significant improvement in their results.

Sharon’s passion and commitment to helping others is truly inspiring, and we are grateful for the way she has turned to helping others the way she was first helped.

You can be a champion of change for these young people who are fighting for their communities. With your partnership, we can reach more young people like Sharon and equip them with training, education, and mentorship. This unleashes them to go deep into their communities to reach other young people and create transformation.

We are raising 6,000,000 KSHS to enable us:

  • Grow from a Community-Based Organization (CBO) to a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which will allow us to create more partnerships here in Kenya.

  • Expand our work from one neighborhood to four neighborhoods, including Kibera in Nairobi, and Kisumu and Mombasa in other parts of Kenya.

  • Grow from 40 young, dynamic leaders to 200 changemakers across Kenya.

  • Reach, develop, and engage young people through their dreams and goals.

We are grateful for your friendship, care and support over the years. This is a new and exciting moment in BWAB Kenya's story and by giving towards young people like Sharon, you are an important piece of the story. Please give what you can and help others know about this wonderful vision too!
